Working freelance has recently given Jamie the time & opportunity to work on his first personal collection 'The Art of the Crush'

A chance meeting between a crushed beer can & its juxtaposition to some brightly coloured packaging sparked a concept that quickly developed into a passion. Jamie realised the vivid colours combined with the interplay of light could be the perfect subject matter he had been searching for to suit his bold, graphic style.

He became fascinated how different areas pick up colour from there surroundings to create subtle colour shifts in the metal. By focusing on light & reflection he found it possible to transform ordinary metallic cans into visually engaging studies of colour, light & form.

Excited by the theory, Jamie began to experiment & subsequently developed a successful process for crushing that would ensure

cans remain upright whilst also retaining the main elements of their dynamic branding.

In order to give his work a contemporary feel, Jamie further developed his mixed media technique, incorporating abstract backgrounds of block colour into his printed underpaintings, before adding layers of high viscosity acrylic to build depth & luminosity.

A final application of opaque acrylic gouache then tightens up the more intricate typography & enhance any highlights.
